Journal #11: Crucible Confessions

Part 1
Before we began reading, we debated the statement confessing to a crime you didn't commit in order to avoid punishment is wise.

  • Why did Tituba and Abigail confess to participating in witchcraft, if they did not truly "compact with the Devil"?
  • Why do they accuse others of this crime?
  • What else could they have done?
  • What would you have done?
Part 2
What were they thinking?

  • Choose one of the following characters: Rev. Parris, Abigail, Tituba
  • What Kohlberg stage are they operating at?
  • Write an interior monologue of their thoughts -- from their perspective -- as the action in Act 1 unfolded:
    • What was their thought process?
    • How did they decide what to do?
