Journal #18: American Societal Mores
Part 1Your family is getting ready to host a foreign exchange student. You must teach him/her what is "normal" for American -- how to behave so they will not be seen as "different."
- What do you teach them?
- What do you tell them about?
- Think about: greetings, dress, manners, conversation, gestures, relationships, shopping, grooming, visiting another home
- Are there different sets of rules for different people in American society?
- Consider what the "overall expectations" are for the following groups - be conscious of stereotypes, but be honest
- also consider how these expectations may change over generations
- women
- men
- white
- Muslim
- teens
- handicapped
- Latino
- LGBT
- elderly
- black
- Asian
- smart
- rich
- poor
- urban
- rural
