Blog Post #5: To Be a Puritan
Based on what we have read, what was life like for the English Puritans in the Massachusetts Bay Colony? As you respond, think about the following questions:- How did they adjust to their new world?
- In what way could their system of religious beliefs lead to an imbalance of power within a community?
- How would you feel if you were among them? Why?
The Puritan people adjusted kind of well to their settings they learned how to work the system and then they used it to help them gain. if i were among them i would feel bad for the fact that we were taking and killing the native people but I would be happy=y it was them and not me
ReplyDeleteThe puritans adjusted to the new world fearfully, then as the Indians began to show them how to live, they became a bunch of know it alls and ran the Indians off their own land. Their system could be imbalanced because the idea of good and bad is intemperated in different ways, and judging a person by the rules said in a bible are only apply able to a person who is a follower of that religion. If I was among them I would feel scared. I would be at risk of being killed just because I made a small mistake, or made a poor judgment.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Puritans adjusted to the new world, they kind of like it because they were happy to be at a new place. However, they looked down on it. They were somewhat not satisfied with what they got. Their system could be imbalanced because the Puritans believed in the power of God, so they followed his lead. Also some people of lower power might feel as though the people of higher are not righteous. This is because people with their different belief. If I was amongst these people I would feel somewhat nervous I not used to being around people from different places. I would feel scared, I could be at risk of being killed or just seeing other people die
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans adjusted to the new world just fine, the Indians showed them their way of life then they killed the Indians off their own land.Their system of religious beliefs can lead to an imbalance of power because they do bad things and bad things which can cause them to be judged by not following their religion. If i was among them I would feel bad because if somebody helped me do something and I double crossed them that is not a good thing.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans had a hard time adjusting to the new world. They had a hard time finding food and shelter. The system of beliefs lead to an imbalance power was that the people was the most graced was they people to be elected the run the community. I would feel as though that I am the one who should run the community. Also everyone would judge me for every little thing i do.
ReplyDeleteThe puritans transitioned to the new world with out any fear and , then used the Indians to show them how to live. They ran with the new information and became to run the Indians off their land. Their system could be seen as a balanced system because some were helped and others was not, and they only followed people who were born into the world without sin . If I was apart of this I would feel different. I would probably try to stay on the low to avoid being kilt.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans had a difficult time with dealing with the new world. They had to battle with finding shelter, food, and nursing each other back to health. When the Indians taught them how to survive, living was much easier. The puritans believed that God will always be by their side. They also believed that people were born with sin and you have to work your way up to heaven. If I was among them, I would feel grateful that the Indians helped me and my family survive.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Puritans entered the new world they didn't really know what they were
ReplyDeletedoing so the Indians had to guide them. When they got the information they kept it and held on to. Some of the puritans got helped out but some didn't. The so called perfect people were kept alive, but the sinners were put to death. I will feel different. Also i would feel upset because i would be judge constantly. Also i would feel the need to be perfect in order to fit in and survive.
The Puritans at first had a bad expierience with the contact of the land during a harsh winter. Yet, after encountering the Indians they were helped and taken care of to later have a good kick off to their new life on the land. Thought to be peace amoung both the Putitans and Indians, the Puritans later betrayed the Indians by killing them and taking over their homes. Through the eyes of an Indian I'd be furious, it just shows how greedy the Puritans were. They also must not have believe in what they practiced because they went and did these crucial acts upon the Indians.
ReplyDeleteThe puritans came into the world without any fear but did not have the means to survive. They used the Indians to know how but then traded on them and just took everything they knew and did not say thank you at least. They even ran some Indians off of there own land. Their system could be imbalanced because being good and bad is something that they never heard of. You are only good or bad no in between. If i was apart of this i would feel like I should run the whole thing and show people that you can chose your own path. Good or bad.
ReplyDeleteThe purtains came into the the new world in a diffent view. They thought it was all going to be sunshine and rain bows untill they say the Native Americans. They cought new sickness and gone through really harsh weather. The belived that the all powerful god was going to take care of them. If I was amoung them I would love it. Having free tech world would like that alot.
ReplyDeleteThe puritans had a hard time adjusting to the new world. This was because of the bad weather conditions and their lack of knowledge of the new world. The puritans still had strong belief in god and thanked him all the time. The puritans used the Native Americans for their food and knowledge of the land. If I was among the puritans I would feel like I was going against my belief because I was using people and taking over their land which is not the right thing to do. Their system was not balanced because using people and taking over their land is not a godly thing to do and that is what the puritans did to the Native Americans.
ReplyDeleteThe puritans transitioned to the world with clear heads, opening for anything. They adapted the weather and did what they needed to survive. Their religious beliefs caused problems. They only wanted people who were "saved" to be in charge of things. This could lead to people who were unfit being in charge and handling things in a inefficient way. If I were among them I would probably be mad if I wasn't deemed as "saved" cause then I would be basically unimportant. I would adapt to their way of life but commonly disagree with the way things were ran.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans adjusted to their new world in a worried manner. They were just unhappy about the new world at first. While trying to adapt, they were worried about how they will get food and where they would rest their heads at night. They then came in contact with Indians and the Indians showed them how to hunt/ their way in which they live. Their religious beliefs lead to an imbalance of power by still believing in God and some having their own opinions about religion, so some may think they are higher than the rest. If I personally was in this era, I would have to set myself apart from the rest because I feel as though I am different, even though I do believe in God as well. Also, their way of life wasn't up to par, because they didn't have to just get rid of the Indians.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans adjusted to their new life style, one as happy because they found a new place, and somewhere they could call their own, but then two, as fearful. They didn't know where they were or who was amongst them. Once the Native Americans came in they thought they were safe and had covenant with them, but little did they know, they would soon be infected with disease, and forced to cook, clean and labor after the Native Americans. Their religion played a big part in their lives, because they believed that everything happened for a reason. In their time of storm, the had no worries, it was like they weren't worried at all what this could mean for them, but when they were blessed, they gave all praise to their God and rejoiced in all those blessings.
ReplyDeletethe puritans entered the new world fearfully, ignorantly, and blindly. Once they were able to adapt they took advantage of the Indians and took their land. once they settled after getting rid of the Indians they set there imbalanced form of government that only gave the saved power and the damned were not only condemned by destiny but were condemned by everybody in the community. if i were apart of them i would leave to a place of more equality or i would just stay low and keep to my self

ReplyDeleteAt first when the Puritans arrived to the " new world " they couldn't survive many was dying due to diseases and harsh weather condition . But when the natives approached them they took on a few survival tips . After receiving this information they were all killed at a big feast ( thanksgiving ) . If I were among them I would not know how I behave because I would be raised that way . But from me looking from the outside in I feel sad that they had such a strong belief in god but had no mercy in killing a whole population .
They adjusted to the new world by striving and not giving up. they liked the new area than a lot of problems occurred and a lot of them died , but they soon got everything under control. The imbalance in their community occurred when others started to suspect people within the community to be wicked or not worthy of being with them. If I was among them I would feel scared or a better word always on my toes because the way the operated seen suspect to me and I would want to know who was truly not wicked , but I would never state that someone of riteous or not
ReplyDeletethe puritians enter their new world without a thught in their head besides that they were on shore and now had some where to live. but they soon began to realize the hardships and they were in for the weather and other things. puritians believed that every thing happened for a resaon and that if god wanted something done that is what was done. they created agreements and all kinds of things to help get along wiht the indains even though te purtians faced some hardsips they never gave up and kept fighting for their belifes
DeleteThe puritans adjusted to the new world in fear. They were unsure of what life would be like. Then, as the Indians began to show them how to live, they became a bunch of know it alls and slowly ran the Indians off of their own land and home. Their system could be imbalanced because judging a person by the rules said in a bible are only apply able to a person who is a follower of that religion. If I was among them I would feel worried. I would be at risk of being killed just because I made a small honest mistake, or made a poor judgment.
ReplyDeleteLife for the Puritans wasn't as easy as they expected it to be once they got to the new world. problems that they faced once reaching the "New World" was it was winter when they arrived so they didn't have any type of shelter other then the boats that they came in on. they did not have any food and wasn't able to find food. many of them died of not being able to adjust and adapt for survival. Once the natives taught them how to hunt fish and build shelter they believed that they were now okay so they betrayed the natives and killed them off from diseases. They believed that God had them and all they had to do was prey to God and their prayers would be answered. I wouldn't be able to be around them because even though they only came to the New World to practice their own religious beliefs i believe that they took advantage of the Native's kindliness and willingness to take them in and showed them the way of life and how to survive in harsh weather, they turned on them and consumed half the Native population.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans adjusted to the "new world" in a difficult manner because when they first got on the land it was winter. Yes, they were happy and praising God for the "new world" but many people died during the winter because they did not have the necessities to live. After a while, they met native americans who showed them how to live by giving them survival tips. Once they learned the new things and how to live upon them, they kicked the Natives "out". The inbalance in their community made it difficult for most people because the Puritans claim that some were witches or just not worth enough. If I was living in that time, then I could not survive because they would claim alot of people evil. By that time they were killing "witches".
ReplyDeleteWhen the Puritans entered the New world they had no clue as to what was going on nor how to care for themselves; They went through a tough time and nearly half of them were killed by the lack of food and vitamin which exposed them to a disease and they were slowly dying off. But then the Natives came to their aid and gave them some survival types which was the start of changing the Puritan lives. They where indeed happy that the grace of god was spared on their lives. In the end the Puritan killed a whole population which lend a hand out to them. I feel a bit questionable about their actions for killing so many people who helped them yet they believed in god. If I were a puritan I would have never bit the hand that fed me.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans had a hard time adjusting a lot of people did not know how to build stuff, for example (a canoe ). Their religion beliefs played a big role because they were so thankful when god got them there safely and they believed he would get them through anything and they were right. If I was among them I would not feel as scared because I was just have to learn how to build stuff and I would not be worried because I would just believe in myself and god.
ReplyDeleteAdjusting to the new world was difficult for the Puritans. When they first arrived, many were dying off because of diseases and terrible weather conditions, However, when they met the Natives, they took a few of survival tips, and then soon after that they took advantage.Their system could be considered as like equaled out because some benefited and others did not. If i was among this era i would be very cautious of the others and find ways not to be killed.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans had a rocky road settling in the new world. They were hit by a lot of diseases and lack of knowledge of what the world was like. Weather conditions also played apart in their struggle. Although they went through some tough times, they did have positive things happen involving the Natives teaching them the ways. to survive and establishing a system. Puritans bang their religious beliefs to the world and they began to get along with the Natives. If I were in their position, I would trust in god to help me survive and do my best to in any way I can.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans had a difficult time adjusting to the new world. They had a difficult time because they had no food nor shelter when they first arrived, people had diseases and the weather was bad. Their religious beliefs could lead to an imbalance of power within a community because not everyone believed in God and if they didn't believe in God they were considered sinners or damned. If I was among them I would not feel comfortable because if I didn't believe in God I could be killed .

ReplyDeleteThe Puritans adjusted to theur new world very well because when they got there they were happy and excited. It could imbalance their community because the puritans believed in god so the lower class didn't want he higher class to think they had alot if power. If I was them I would be happy because they just landed on a new world so they can make anything they want it to be.
The Puritans adjusting to the new world was hard at first. They didnt have enough food and people were dying off from starvation. But then the settled down and found ways to get food and ways to survive. They believed god would always be there for them and they thanked him for getting them to Cape Cod safely. If i was there i wouldnt really feel safe and i would have tried my best to find food so i would not be any if the ones that died from starvation.
ReplyDeleteThe puritans lives were pretty hard. The puritans had to fight through many hardships to stay alive. Coming to new land had to be difficult especially with having to find food avoiding diseases and trying to build things they needed. The puritans responded to their new life very well. To even stay alive after half of the settlers died after the first winter. The puritans imbalance of religious beliefs and power within a community could be dangerous because say god does not exist and they that he will be the savior for all their problems so they will need some form of government. If I was in this community I would feel uncomfortable because I am in a new territory and we are struggling to stay alive so if I was in this situation I honestly would not know what to do.
ReplyDeleteLife for the Puritans was very hard. They had a hard time adjusting to the unknown of Cape Code, or better known as Massachusetts. They had to face the harsh winters and diseases that was killing off their people. Also, they had thought as the Natives as enemies, but when they got to meet them, they became...allies perhaps. The Puritans religious beliefs could cause an imbalance of power because they would try to push their beliefs onto others and they think that they know what happens to who and why etc. If I were among them, well, let's just say it's every man for themselves and do what I can to survive. I have my own morals and values so I could care less what happens to the Puritans, as long as I am not involved with whatever they are doing.
ReplyDeleteAdjusting to the new world was somewhat difficult for the Puritans. There were pro's to it but the con's out way it also. The weather caused them to starve but there lack of knowledge about the Native Americans also was an setback they didnt know there language all they really could rely on was there belief in god. If I was there I dont think i could really survive because i would feel like i was invading there home.

ReplyDeleteThe puritans adjusted to the new world fearlessly. The Indians showed them the way of life and how to go about things. They became stuck up and ran the Indians away. Their scheme was a good scheme because it had good and bad. Their system of religious beliefs could be imbalanced because the thought of good and bad is big in different ways, and deciding someone by the rules said in a bible are only applied to whom who follow that religion. If I was with them I would be frightened but feel together because they were like a family.
ReplyDeleteWhen they arrived to the new world it was harsh winter and they couldn't settle on land immediately. First they stayed on the ship but they were infected and had to leave. When they arrived on land they slowly settled in but even then they had troubles. They got majority of help when they became friends with the local natives. The natives taught them how to survive and prosper in the new lands. There power system was basically a hierarchy. Those who were considered saved were at the top and the rest would go down. They would deem me damned because I would question everything they thought and were doing to the natives, they took advantage of them and exploited them.
ReplyDeleteThe puritans lives were pretty difficult. Especially during and after their travels to new lad, they endured many obstacles and hardships. Coming to new land was a difficult transition, especially because they had to find food to avoid starvation, survive harsh weather, avoid diseases and trying to build shelter and colonies. After the trip, only about half of the settlers survived the first winter. The puritans had relied strongly on there religious beliefs. If I was in this community I would probably feel some type of way about what was going on. These were religious people and that's what they banked their survival on, but a lot of them were dying and that would have been frightening.
ReplyDeleteFor the Puritans to adjust to the new world, it was challenging at first because they did not know how to live in the wilderness. To get use to this new place, the Puritans had to make huts and find a way to eat and be warm, especially in the winter. Their system of religious belief lead them to an imbalance of power within a community by them thinking that the person who should be in power, is the one who has been saved but instead it should have been the person with the most knowledge about living in that environment should be in control. For example, like the Native Americans. If I was among with them I would feel lost and hopeless because their only way of "survival" was believing in God, which would only lead them so far. For example, to eat they had to steal corn from the Native Americans which was a sin for stealing.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans' lives were difficult when they were getting used to the New World. They thanked God for helping them get through the treacherous waters to get to the new land. Many of the colonists were dying due to the exposed diseases that the natives had unknowingly giving off.Once they first met the Native Americans, they disliked the Native Americans. The natives stole away the colonists' tools while the colonists were gone for dinner.Several days later, the Natives had given gifts to the colonists, forming a beautiful new friendship between the two groups. The Natives teached the colonists' survival tips on staying alive on the New Land.Their system of religious beliefs showed that God were the reason that they made it to the New Land safely and it lead to the overpowering of using the natives for useful things. They believed God will guide them through anything. If I was in this era,I would feel pretty scared of what would happen next and use the Native to find ways about the land.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans adjusted to the new land nervously, because the climate was very different and many people were sick with diseases. In some ways their systems of religion helped them but in some ways it didn;t. For instance, they thought that God would automatically provide them with their every need, but little did they know that they had to do most of the work for it to work half and half. I would feel scared, because it would be a different land for me. I would have to adjust to the changes, because the things were in England is really what pushed people away and want to come to America.

The Puritans basically had it hard for them, more so during their travels. First they had to deal with harsh weathers, especially in the cold. Most died and the ones that made it to see spring tried to take care of the sick, which wasnt easy to do on a boat. They also had strong religious beliefs and practiced what they preached, but that also wasnt easy being in a new place. But they were relieved that God spared them their lives which is something they beliveved, that he would always help.
ReplyDeleteThe Purtians life was hard when they first got there. They did not know what to do or how to live. They did not know nothing about this place or what would happen when they got there. Of course at first it was difficult, but over time they adapted to it. Their religious beliefs could lead to an imbalance because they all did not believe in the same things. The Indians could have judged them because of what they believed and vise verse. With this being said they could not get along an it could lead to bad thing happening. I would feel different because they would have me thinking like i don not know who i am. They might pull me away from what i believe and what i'm used to so i can do what they are doing.
ReplyDeletethe puritans adjusting to the new world, was hard because they were not use to the wild. there religion beliefs lead to imbalanced power if you were judging a person by the rules said in a bible are only apply able to a person who is a follower of that religion. which meant only one person whom w had also was suppose to be saved.
ReplyDeleteTo start off they weren't very pleasant about their arrival to this new world. They had traveled for many days and what awaited them was a vast and untamable wilderness and its natives. They had many bad run ins with the natives obviously, because the pilgrims were taking their resources. The Puritans were forced to adapt to this new environment the best they could. BY STEALING! They used trees to make barriers and stole food and weapons from the indians. Their beliefs were a bit strict as well. They believed, from birth, a person was damned or "saved." I wonder how this affected their ability to communicate with one another. Would they approach he who was labeled as damned? And finally, I would feel very uncomfortable living in a society that held such beliefs dear and acted upon them. I can't tell if you're damned or graced and it's none of my business. We're still both human beings, right? We both want to live and prosper from this land, right? I can't imagine living under such.... horrible principles.
ReplyDeleteFor the Puritans to adjust, it was difficult at first because of the colder weather and nature they settled into. The Puritans found a way to survive and continue to live on by using their resources, the natives. They befriended the natives and learned their way of life in order to survive. The natives were willing to teach the Puritans how to live and survival skills. Once they learned how to survive, they basically got rid of the natives. Their system of religious beliefs could be imbalanced because people who don't know whether they are in sin or who don't follow the religion, should be punished. If I was in this community I would try not to interact with the Puritans and let the others help them.
ReplyDeleteAs the puritans adjusted to the new world they were filled with fear, until they were able to adapt and survive on their own. Once they were able to do so they took the land from the Native Americans. Their system could be imbalanced because their idea of a good leader is a person that was chosen at birth to go to heaven. If I were to be among them I would feel hatred towards them, because you can’t base everyone off of your own religious beliefs.
ReplyDelete•It was pretty difficult for them. So many has already died. The were starving but were save by the Africans. they gave them help and showed them how to survive. there belief were way far out there as in they believed in god and used him as the reason they do pretty much everything. I would have accepted the new style of trust and try to work it out.
ReplyDeleteThe purita had adjust to diffuclt because they were on new land and didn't know the range and resources available. The encounter with the Native Americans was all new for them. All they seen them as savages. They did not want any part of. Half of the people died on the way the new world. Their religious beliefs could effect the way their community work by everyone trying to be good and which can cause some problems within the community because they would down upon the ones who are not good.
ReplyDeleteBased on what we read, life for the English Puritans in the Massachusetts Bay Colony was very difficult to begin with. They had to deal with not having enough food, the weather, and half of their group dying off. But they eventually adjusted. They stole from the Native Americans to get them by at first, but ended up making a "truce" with them so they would learn how to survive. Their system of religious beliefs could lead to an imbalance of power within a community because some of the people could disagree with who was in charge. If I were among the Puritans, I would probably change some of the things they did, such as killing off the Native Americans. I think once they called a "truce" they shouldn't have been so greedy over the land.
ReplyDelete•How did they adjust to their new world
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans adjusted to a foreign place pretty well. When they arrived in what is now America, it wasn't what they expected. They thought it would be like Heaven. Instead it was a cold place with a rugged landscape. Although, some of the newcomers couldn't adjust all that well as almost half of them died off.
In what way could their system of religious beliefs lead to an imbalance of power within a community?
Their religious beliefs helped them and hurt them. It helped them by creating a feel of unity because everyone followed the same religion. It hurt them because within that community only people who were saved were considered important and valuable. This made the power of those who weren't saved lower then those who were. This obviously creates a sense of power imbalance.
•How would you feel if you were among them? Why?
If I were among the Puritans I would be very nervous in a foreign place. I would have serious doubts after half of the people that came with me died. That's normally taken as a sign to abandon an idea, as it doesn't make it ideal for sheltering.
At first the purtians did not know what to do until the indiana showed them how to survive. The systems could have been imbalance because they have most of their faith in God. Im not saying dont have faith in god but most of the discoveries is from science. If I was near them I would want to leave them because they stoled from the indians.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans life was hard at first. But they adjusted to the new world sorta with heart because they were not as scared. Although every thing was new to them they eventually understood it. The Puritans were strong religious believers. If I was I this society I don't know if I would last because it seems like it was hard for them so I low I would be hard for me.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteThe puritans adjusted to the new world with fear and with dismay as the Indians began to show them the way of life , they became a coincident and they forced the Indians off THEIR land. Their system could be imbalanced because the Puritans believed in the power of God, so they followed him. They had their thoughts of good and bad people is built in. If I was among them I would feel scared and undecided just because I could be killed by making a silly little mistake. Or even being judge poorly.
The Puritans adjustment was difficult, yet successful. They found a way how to survive by help from the natives. The natives taught them how to survive. After that, they were all killed at a big feast, otherwise known as Thanksgiving. Their system of religious beliefs could be imbalanced by believing everything that happens is meant to happen. Looking at life in that perspective is a bit to extreme for me so I would just be intelligent. Use the resources I received and use them in a positive way and in a way it will help me.
ReplyDeleteWell the Puritans came in the new word very confused of their surrounding and kind of harsh especially not knowing how to live in the wilderness. When they came their they thought it was going to be peaches and cream but instead it was unusual and hideous. Also they were having hard times being hungry and dealing with diseases but the Native Americans helped them. Their system of religious beliefs lead them to an imbalance of power within a community by them doing bad things and then thanking God saying he is their help but that's just contradicting themselves. Just like me saying I believe in not getting into sexual intercourse with someone I'm not married to then I go and have a baby not being married at that time. If I were among the Native Americans I wouldn't have a problem because I'm Native American myself so I would feel comfortable but still have to adapt to their way of life.
ReplyDeleteI think at first it was difficult for the English puritans to be comfortable and adjust to the New World because of how many things they were going through with the sickness and the constant disgust with the new environment. There system of beliefs led an imbalance to occur in their government because they only believed that certain people were saved by God to live a good life. If I were among the Puritans, I would feel like they're judging my every move just because I know that their beliefs are very strict.
ReplyDeleteIt was hard for the Puritans to adjust to the new world because they didn't know how to survive, how to use the land to the advantage and survive. things like finding food , clothing , a place to lay their head at night. but this all became different with the help of the Indians who knew the land and was there before them.
ReplyDeleteTheir system of religious beliefs could lead to an imbalance of power within a community because puritans believed that everyone was bad and only those who were saved should be in power and that was just how it went. And if I were among them I would be the one who was saved because I wouldn't want to be labeled as bad and I want to be in power. But if I wasn't saved and lived among them I probably would be afraid because they did a lot of bad things and accusing to people who they even thought were different or didn't think what they thought or believed what they believed.
From what we read in class and me at home i believe the puritans went threw a lot of dilemmas. I say this because it was really hard for them to get used to the weather, shelter and even the Native Americans. They also went threw so many loss throughout this journey. I think the puritan religion had a big impact on the government. The should that if you were pure to them then you were in power. This meant that not everyone's voice was heard this also meant that the Native Americans had to get used to this government in order to stay on their home land. I would not have like to be among them at all. I would feel like I would not want to be the same a everyone "pure" I think too many people lied to themselves by doing this. All of these things that the Puritans did would have wanted me to go against them.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans struggled with life on a new land, they were unfamiliar with the harsh winters. In result almost half of the population of puritans settlers died from illnesses caused by the harsh weather. One way their systems of beliefs could lead to an imbalance of power in the community was the way the elected their leaders. Puritans chose those who they thought were holy, often times leaving total control of the community with one person. If I were amongst these people I would most likely feel threatened and betrayed. I would have been protective of our survival techniques to combat with the english'a weapons. If I was a Native I would have made the Puritans earn our trust and hospitality.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans had a hard time adjusting to the new world , they had to learn how to provide and survive on their own. They had a hard time even before they came to land. Hundreds of people died during the winter because they didn't have the proper clothing and they didn't have the proper medicine to take care of some people so they died because of that. If I was among them would try my best to help everyone who was sick and who was in need of help.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Puritans found themselves in this new environment with a new land to call their own, they had to either change themselves to adapt to the land or tried too change what they didn't like. They found land that was too cold -- they moved. They stumbles upon a native population, -- they befriended them. They were dying,-- they found ways to survive. The Puritans tried their best to make this "New World" their own and, as we can see, did a good job at it. Their beliefs, though with a right idea, failed in it's final design. They all agreed on the belief that some people are born damned, while others are born saved. It is good to always want to be good for the sake of being good, but is is terrible to alienate someone else because they are thought to be more of a sinner and more damned than you are. The also believed that a select group of saves people could lead while all others had no say in what decisions were mad for them. Finally I would not feel comfortable being apart of their group because as i stated above, they have right ideas, but "bad" beliefs.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans adjusted well to the New World, although there was difficulties and setbacks. The Puritans had to learn how to live in this new society, having to learn how to deal with the weather, learn how to find food, build shelter for the colony, and steer clear of diseases, which can become very difficult especially not knowing the landscape. The Puritans did whatever it took to survive. They stole resources from the Natives, and later asked for the Natives to teach them their ways on how to survive. Their system of religious beliefs lead to an imbalance of power within a community, because from birth people were already deemed "saved" or as a "sinner". Those who were saved were the Elect leaders and were in control of almost everything. One thing that seemed interesting to me was how could you be saved or pure if you sinned as well. The things the Puritans did to the Natives would be considered as sin. They stole resources, and what we know for history they killed the Natives. If I were living in this society I would try to limit my interactions with the Puritans, and I would use them as they used the Natives. I would also explain to them how they did wrong as well
ReplyDeleteThe puritans adjusted well to the new community. But they did struggle with the weather. Many puritans died or got sick. Diseases got passed around and made them sick. There beliefs was imbalanced because they was looking at each other and judging by their looks. I wouldn't want to be there because I will feel uncomfortable and mad. They will always be looking at me for something to be wrong. Or to judge me on me actions.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans had a difficult time adjusting to their new land, because of the nature. Many have died because of the lack of food and sickness due to the harsh weather. Many of them also lived in fear because of the area in which they have arrived. Their religious beliefs could have helped lead into an imbalance of power within a community in a way that they had faith in God to help them survive and to provide them what they need to survive. It was like they used scriptures in the Bible as a tool to live a perfect life, making sure that everyone was living that way, which in my opinion is not cool and as a believer myself, I believe that all vengeance belongs to God; meaning whatever someone else had done, He would be the last to judge. As far as how I would feel if I was among them, it would be very uncomfortable because of how they do things and interpret the Bible. Maybe it is because of how I was taught as a child about God. It is also hard for me to put my trust into a large group of people.

ReplyDeleteThe puritans adjusted to the new world with out any fear, but struggled with the living,so used the Indians to show them how to live.Although every thing was new to them they eventually understood it. The Puritans were strong religious believers. I believe if I was amongst them I would have not adjusted as fast as they did and would've only did things my way to survive.
ReplyDeleteThe Puritans had a difficult time adjusting to their new land, because of the nature. They also struggled with survival and agreeing with the Indians and etc. They found land that was too cold -- they moved. They stumbles upon a native population, -- they befriended them. They also, found at the Indians house that their was food, that can take and took with them to their boat.
ReplyDeleteThe lesson that you can take from the Crucible today is to not believe everything you hear. You can also learn that problems can go beyond their limit if taken too far. Also if you want to accuse somebody i think that you should have hardcore evidence.
ReplyDeleteDuring the time period Puritans were struggling a lot. The "new world" included lots of vegetation, harsh winters, and the lack of technology. So adjusting wasn't easy. However, there were lots of Native Americans who helped support the Puritans and taught them their ways.
ReplyDeleteBut their religion caused lots of imbalanced power because it seemed so strict and biased that there was a lack of knowledge and open freedom. God isn't as strict as people believe. However, the puritans can almost be considered prideful. Their biased and strict rules were what they considered "pure." Although, that's not always the case. If they didn't expand their knowledge and only kept to their rules they wouldn't expand their ideas of becoming even more pure. Basically, their restraints and biased minds caused lots of tension. Like the witch trials and even the Native Americans, they believed "God had told them to do this so they could stay pure." It was the biased ideas that were their downfall.
Well as an African American, I'd probably have no voice of opinion whatsoever. However, if they considered me a sister, I'd be afraid for my own life. I wouldn't think of all of us as pure because it says in the bible we're not and even without religion saying so, we as humans are not perfect. So, I'd be against it. Also, I don't like violence whatsoever, so I wouldn't even put myself near the situation.
